A Comparison of Vital Registration Systems among Countries


Abstract
It must be helpful to look other countries¢¥ system and to compare them with our system in order to find a way to improve the quality of vital statistics in Korea. In this paper, the author reviewed the Korean system and tried to summarize some different points, from our system, identified from the comparison among other countries as follows :
1) Hospitals have primary responsiblity for informing births or deaths to the authorities, 2) Burial permit is issued only after death registration, 3) for death registration, either death certificate signed by doctor or registration form with doctor¢¥s signature is only accepted, 4) Only a few days are required for death registration period, 5) Clinical findings during delivery are supplied in birth registration form, 6) Health authorities are involved with the reporting channel. However, its prerequisite is to have a network system to collect vital data. The infectious disease, 7) At a frequent interval, data is open to the public upon request and the statistical agency provides its according consumer service, and 8) A coding section is provided for recording causes of death following the ICD system.
